- A recent study found that among 12th-graders, 8 of the 13 most commonly abused drugs (excluding tobacco and alcohol) were prescription or over-the-counter medications, over half of which were given to them or were purchased from a friend or relative.
- Today, the prescription drugs most commonly abused by high school seniors during 2010 were: Vicodin (8% of survey respondents), Adderall (about 7%), tranquilizers (5%) and cough medicine (5%). Respondents also reported using OxyContin (4.9%) and Ritalin (3%) for non-medical purposes.
- During Dilaudid withdrawal the person may experience cold or clammy skin.
- Past-year nonmedical use of sedatives and tranquilizers has decreased among 12th graders over the last 5 years, while nonmedical use of amphetamines or opioid pain relievers has increased.
Short-term drug rehab and alcohol treatment services in Eldred are ordinarily delivered in an inpatient or residential facility for a period of 30 days or less. While long term drug rehabilitation requires at least a 90 day stay and a much more demanding course of treatment, short-term drug rehab and alcohol treatment services work by getting the addicted person rehabilitated through detox followed by a brief course of counseling and therapy to lightly deal with addiction issues. Because it usually takes several weeks if not months to fully address all issues which might trigger relapse once they go back into the real world, short-term drug rehab and alcohol treatment services may not be sufficient for those in Eldred who have a seriousaddiction and/or dependence to drugs.
