Many individuals in Calvin who find their way to drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who struggle with mental health issues in Calvin also become involved in substance abuse at some point in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients typically turn to drugs or alcohol to self medicate as a way to alleviate the symptoms of an underlying psychiatric condition. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a psychological condition, and only when they make it to a drug rehab program is this sort of issue discovered. This alone can help resolve addiction issues and put the person in a position to receive treatment for both conditions so that they have a strong chance of remaining clean and sober and mentally healthy in the future.
