Many individuals in Cuba who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who suffer with mental health issues in Cuba, Illinois also take part in substance abuse at some point in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients frequently turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate as a way to relieve the symptoms of an underlying psychological disorder. Some addicted individuals aren't even diagnosed with a psychological condition, and only when they begin to receive treatment at a drug rehab program is this sort of issue uncovered. This in itself can help resolve addiction issues and put the individual in a position to get treatment for both conditions so that they have a strong chance of remaining clean and sober and psychologically healthy in the future.
