Many addicted individuals in DHS, MD. who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Actually, as many as 1/3 of those who struggle with mental health issues in DHS, Maryland also take part in substance abuse at some time in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients often turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate in an attempt to alleviate the symptoms of an underlying psychiatric disorder. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a disorder, and only when they make it to a drug rehabilitation center is this sort of psychological condition brought to light. This alone can help resolve addiction issues and put the person in a position to get rehabilitation for both conditions so that they have a good chance of remaining clean and sober and psychologically healthy in the future.
