Many individuals in Hope who find their way to drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. In fact, as many as 1/3 of those who struggle with mental health issues in Hope also become involved in substance abuse at some time in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients frequently turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate as a way to relieve the symptoms of an underlying psychological disorder. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a psychological condition, and only when they make it to a drug rehab facility is this sort of psychological condition brought to light. This alone can sometimes help resolve addiction issues and put the person in a position to receive treatment for both disorders so that they have a good chance of remaining clean and sober and mentally stable in the future.
