Many addicted individuals in Laveen who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who suffer with mental health issues in Laveen also become involved in substance abuse at some time in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients frequently turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate as a way to relieve the symptoms of an underlying psychological disorder. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a disorder, and only when they begin to receive treatment at a drug rehab center is this sort of issue brought to light. This in itself can sometimes help resolve addiction issues and put the individual in a position to get treatment for both conditions so that they have a good chance of remaining abstinent and mentally healthy in the future.
