People in Ontario with DUI/DWI are often court ordered to go to an alcohol or drug rehabilitation center, typically when they are first time offenders and in lieu of other stiff penalties. Although being convicted of a DUI/DWI in Ontario often comes with large fines and even jail time in some instances, the criminal justice system is occasionally more apt to help rehabilitate the individual rather than punishing them. Allowing people with DUI/DWI to take part in a drug and alcohol rehab facility as an alternative to other forms of punishment has shown to be successful in keeping individuals in Ontario, Wisconsin out of the criminal justice system because of DUI/DWI in the future.
