Many people in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who suffer with mental health issues in Pittsburgh also become involved in substance abuse at some time in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients typically turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate in an attempt to relieve the symptoms of an underlying psychological issue. Some addicted individuals aren't even diagnosed with a psychological condition, and only when they begin to receive treatment at a drug treatment facility is this sort of issue discovered. This in itself can help resolve addiction issues and put the individual in a position to receive treatment for both disorders so that they have a good chance of remaining abstinent and psychologically stable in the future.
