Many individuals in Providence who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who suffer with mental health issues in Providence also become involved in substance abuse at some time in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients frequently turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate as a way to relieve the symptoms of an underlying psychiatric issue.
