Many people in Rome who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who struggle with mental health issues in Rome also take part in substance abuse at some time in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients frequently turn to drugs or alcohol to self medicate in an attempt to ease the symptoms of an underlying psychological disorder. Some addicted individuals aren't even diagnosed with a disorder, and only when they make it to a drug treatment program is this sort of psychological condition discovered. This in itself can sometimes help resolve addiction issues and put the person in a position to receive rehabilitation for both conditions so that they have a good chance of remaining abstinent and mentally stable in the future.
