Many addicted individuals in Saltese who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. In fact, as many as 1/3 of those who suffer with mental health issues in Saltese also become involved in substance abuse at some time in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients typically turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate as a way to ease the symptoms of an underlying psychiatric condition. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a psychological condition, and only when they make it to a drug treatment center is this sort of issue discovered. This in itself can sometimes help resolve addiction issues and put the person in a position to get rehabilitation for both conditions so that they have a strong chance of remaining clean and sober and mentally healthy in the future.
