Many individuals in Shipman who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who struggle with mental health issues in Shipman also become involved in substance abuse at some point in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients frequently turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate in an attempt to ease the symptoms of an underlying psychological disorder. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a psychological condition, and only when they begin to receive treatment at a drug treatment facility is this sort of psychological condition brought to light. This alone can sometimes help resolve addiction issues and put the person in a position to get rehabilitation for both disorders so that they have a good chance of remaining clean and sober and psychologically healthy in the future.
