Many addicted individuals in Southeastern who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who struggle with mental health issues in Southeastern, Pennsylvania also become involved in substance abuse at some point in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients often turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate as a way to alleviate the symptoms of an underlying psychological condition. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a psychological condition, and only when they begin to receive treatment at a drug treatment program is this sort of psychological condition discovered. This in itself can help resolve addiction issues and put the individual in a position to get rehabilitation for both disorders so that they have a good chance of remaining abstinent and mentally stable in the future.
