Many addicted individuals in Vanderbilt, Texas who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who struggle with mental health issues in Vanderbilt also become involved in substance abuse at some point in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients often turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate in an attempt to relieve the symptoms of an underlying psychological issue. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a disorder, and only when they make it to a drug treatment center is this sort of issue discovered. This in itself can sometimes help resolve addiction issues and put the person in a position to receive treatment for both disorders so that they have a strong chance of remaining clean and sober and mentally healthy in the future.
