Many addicted individuals in West Point who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Actually, as many as 1/3 of those who suffer with mental health issues in West Point also become involved in substance abuse at some point in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients often turn to alcohol or drugs to self medicate in an attempt to alleviate the symptoms of an underlying psychological condition. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a disorder, and only when they begin to receive treatment at a drug rehabilitation program is this sort of psychological condition brought to light. This in itself can sometimes help resolve addiction issues and put the individual in a position to receive treatment for both disorders so that they have a good chance of remaining abstinent and mentally stable in the future.
