Many addicted individuals in Westchester who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who suffer with mental health issues in Westchester, Illinois also take part in substance abuse at some point in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients frequently turn to drugs or alcohol to self medicate as a way to alleviate the symptoms of an underlying psychological condition. Some addicted individuals aren't even diagnosed with a psychological condition, and only when they make it to a drug rehabilitation program is this sort of psychological condition discovered. This in itself can sometimes help resolve addiction issues and put the individual in a position to get treatment for both disorders so that they have a strong chance of remaining abstinent and mentally stable in the future.
