- Abuse of opioids or central nervous system depressants over an extended period of time can lead to physical dependence and addiction.

- A prescription drug relapse should not be viewed as a negative concept. It is really an indication that the initial program was not sufficient or the client did not receive all the information that was necessary before they completed the program and returned to their daily life.
- A common sign of prescription drug abuse or addiction is taking a higher dose or taking the medication more often than prescribed.
