Many people in Caledonia who end up in drug rehab are dual diagnosis clients with co-occurring mental and substance abuse problems. Surprisingly, as many as 1/3 of those who suffer with mental health issues in Caledonia also become involved in substance abuse at some time in their lives. These dual diagnosis clients often turn to drugs or alcohol to self medicate in an attempt to alleviate the symptoms of an underlying psychiatric condition. Some treatment clients aren't even diagnosed with a disorder, and only when they make it to a drug treatment facility is this sort of issue brought to light. This in itself can help resolve addiction issues and put the person in a position to receive treatment for both disorders so that they have a good chance of remaining clean and sober and psychologically stable in the future.
